Indication:

Selzentry (Maraviroc) is used with other HIV medications to help control HIV infection. It helps to decrease the amount of HIV in your body so your immune system can work better. This lowers your chance of getting HIV complications (such as new infections, cancer) and improves your quality of life. Selzentry (Maraviroc) belongs to a class of drugs known as entry inhibitors. It works by blocking the HIV virus from infecting healthy immune cells (T-cells).

Mechanism of action:

Selzentry (Maraviroc) is an entry inhibitor and works by blocking HIV from entering human cells. Specifically Selzentry (Maraviroc) is a selective, slowly reversible, small molecule antagonist of the interaction between human CCR5 and HIV-1 gp120. Selzentry (Maraviroc) selectively binds to the human chemokine receptor CCR5 present on the membrane of CD4 cells (T-cells), preventing the interaction of HIV-1 gp120 and CCR5 necessary for CCR5-tropic HIV-1 to enter cells.

 Dosage and Administration:

Use Selzentry (Maraviroc) as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

·         Selzentry (Maraviroc) comes with an extra patient information sheet called a Medication Guide. Read it carefully. Read it again each time you get Selzentry (Maraviroc) refilled.

·         Take Selzentry (Maraviroc) by mouth with or without food.

·         Swallow Selzentry (Maraviroc) whole. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing.

 Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Selzentry (Maraviroc).

 Side effects:

All medicines may cause side effects, but many people have no, or minor, side effects. Check with your doctor if any of these most COMMON side effects persist or become bothersome:

Constipation; cough; diarrhea; dizziness; muscle or joint pain; runny or stuffy nose; sinus inflammation; stomach pain; trouble sleeping.

Precaution:

Before taking Selzentry (Maraviroc), tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before taking this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: heart disease (e.g., previous heart attack), kidney disease, liver problems (including hepatitis B or C infection), low blood pressure.

Store:

Store Selzentry (Maraviroc) between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Keep Selzentry (Maraviroc) out of the reach of children and away from pets.
