Ibrance (Palbociclib)

Brand name: Ibrance

Active Ingeridents (Generic Name) : Palbociclib

Company Name:Pfizer

Package: 21  capsules

Strength : 125 mg

Indication:

Ibrance (Palbociclib)  is a cancer medicine that interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body.

Ibrance (Palbociclib) is used together with   or fulvestrant to treat certain types of advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women.  Ibrance (Palbociclib) was approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on an "accelerated" basis.

Mechanism of action:

Ibrance (Palbociclib) is an oral, reversible, selective, small-molecule inhibitor of CDK4 and CDK6. CDK4 and CDK6 along with their regulatory partner cyclin D1 play a key role in regulating the G1- to S-phase cell-cycle transition via regulation of phosphorylation of the retinoblastoma (Rb) protein.

Dosage & Administration:

Take Ibrance exactly as it was prescribed for you. Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results. Do not use this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.

Ibrance is given in a 28-day treatment cycle, and you may only need to take the medicine during the first 3 weeks of each cycle. Your doctor will determine how long to treat you with Ibrance.

Take with food.

Take the medicine at the same time each day.

Do not crush, chew, break, or open a Ibrance capsule. Swallow it whole.

If you vomit after taking the medicine, wait until the next day to take your next dose.

Do not use a broken or damaged pill.

Ibrance can lower blood cells that help your body fight infections and help your blood to clot. This can make it easier for you to bleed from an injury or get sick from being around others who are ill. Your blood may need to be tested often.

 Side effects:

Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, tiredness, weakness, hair loss, mouth sores, or numbness/tingling of arms/legs may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.

Many people using this medication have serious side effects. However, your doctor has prescribed this drug because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Careful monitoring by your doctor may decrease your risk.

Precaution:

Before taking Ibrance (Palbociclib), tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history.
